Paramount Players, Gala Benefit Concert - Paramount Theater
A new chamber music ensemble based in Bristol, continues its inaugural season with a Gala Benefit Concert. The repertoire will include music by Beethoven, Brahms, Gliere, Haydn and Poulenc. The Paramount Players: Eugene Jones, clarinet, Cherylonda Fitzgerald, cello, Alice Keith Knowles, violin, Judy Kuszmaul James, flute, and Craig Combs, piano, will be joined by local award-winning high school piano trio, Tenacity, and a local vocal quartet from King College.
Tickets: (Concert only) $10.00 - adults, $8.00 - seniors, $5.00 - students, and a special teacher
discount of $50 for 11 or more students. (Benefit tickets) $100.00 - 2 tickets, reception, plus

Earth Day / Arbor Day Activities - Defriece Park, Bristol Tennessee
This annual event celebrates the importance of our environment and recognizes the King Oak located in the park. This oak was recently added to Tennessee's Historic Landmark Tree Register. The Defriece Park will shortly serve as a new arboretum, which will begin by the Arbor Day Commemoration. Free seedlings should be available.

SATURDAY MAY 27, 2006 Memorial Day Commemoration at East Hill Celebration of the lives of those by their faith & deeds have made Bristol "A Good Place To Live" A day long event that will highlight the re-dedication of Revolutionary War General Evan Shelby's gravesite with the participation of the Evan Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A contingency of Overmountain men will provide an honor guard to the service. Also dedicated in the historic cemetary will be the naming of the streets and te new entrance iron gate. The James Keeling Camp of the S.C.V., and other camps, will provide a detachment of reinactors to the events of the day and honor the Confederate veterans that are interred there. A historic tour and gospel music will be provided.

Free Thursday Movies in the Park are part of Bristol's Sesquicentennial Celebration. Bring your friends, family, glankets and lawn chairs for Thursday movies at 8:30pm. Your favorite move popcorn, candy and soda concessions will be available for purchase. If a movie has to be called off for bad weather July 27 at Cumberland Square Park and August 3 at Anderson Park will be set aside as rain check dates. All movies are rated PG or G for family viewing.

Sesquicentennial Art Show, Paramount - Downtown Bristol
A newly formed artists’group, Arts of the Highlands, is announcing their debut with an exhibit in the Paramount Theatre lobby this summer during June and July. As part of Bristol’s Sesquicentennial celebration the exhibition’s theme will be “Bristol-Then and Now” depicting images related to Bristol, old and new. The artwork, consisting of various media ranging from acrylic, watercolor, pastel and photographic posters, will be for sale. The group of artists formed with the desire to create original fine art with imagery reflecting this region’s cultural heritage. The artwork will be available for public viewing during Paramount Theatre events.

Jennie Lou Smith, organist at Wightman Chapel at the Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville and MatthewFrederick, assistant professor of trumpet and music at Emory & Henry, collaborate in this concert thatfeatures trumpet and organ music from the baroque period to the contemporary period highlighted withcompositions by Bruhns, Langlais, and Mathias. In addition, the Emory Trumpet Ensemble will performthe premier of a work by Dr. Frederick for trumpet and organ in celebration of the Bristol Sesquicentennial, 2006.

The Sesquicentennial Ball - The Club (formerly The Bristol Country Club)
This festive gala is anticipated to be one of the highlights of Bristol's 150th celebration. Party-goers will be greeted at the door by a footman and ushered inside to celebrate the Sesquicentennial in style. The foyer will recreated to represent the natural beauty of our region. Feature history murals and representations of classic Bristol trademarks will be displayed while a bluegrass quartet pays homage to the music native to the Bristol area. The ball room will evoke modern-day Bristol with a display of black and white photographs illustrating the diverse population and architecture of Bristol. The Charles Goodwin Orchestra will provide music for ballroom dancing. This grand birthday ball will be a once in a lifetime opportunity!
